Lameness in horses can be a frustrating challenge for owners and farriers alike, especially when traditional shoeing methods are not an option. Thank you to expert Farrier Ronald Aalders for sharing details on his latest Glushu client who has been shod with Glushu when nailing was not an option. See more of their work and keep up to date with how this horse is doing by following Ronald Aalders on Facebook.

From Ronald Aalders

"Here is a couple of pictures of a recent Glushu client of mine. This horse is a big warmblood with a history of “ridabillity” issues and lameness.

A vet exam showed a negative palmar angle (on top of poor shoeing) that could explain the clinical findings.

I was subsequently asked to shoe the horse and address the findings. Previous frequent nailing limited my shoeing options, at least not without serious risks of hot nailing the horse. Due to this risk I opted for Glushus with a rocker, wedge pad and shudim.

The horse is much happier. Follow my page for updates on this client #sigronpodiatry"

How Glushu Works as an Alternative

Glushu is a shoeing system designed to be applied without nails, using a combination of adhesive and mechanical support. For this horse, Ronald used Glushu shoes combined with a rocker, wedge pad, and Shudim. This setup allowed for:

  • Reduced trauma to the hoof by eliminating nails

  • Improved hoof alignment to correct the negative palmar angle

  • Enhanced shock absorption through the wedge pad and rocker design

  • Secure attachment without risking hot nailing injuries

If you would like to try Glushu for your horse, please order from our online store or at your local farrier supply.
