Farrier Review: Glushu for hoof crack

When a horse suffers from a severe hoof crack, finding a reliable solution can be challenging. Expert farrier Ronald Aalders recently shared his experience using Glushu glue on a horse with a difficult hoof crack, demonstrating how this product can make a real difference in hoof care.

From Ronald Aalders

“What the British might call a "bloody crack", indeed a nasty one. The previous shoeing didn't bring what was hoped for so I was asked to give it a try.

The horse was prone to pulling shoes, which is the reason I used GluShus. I floated the medial heel of this LF by cutting out the pad. I placed a piece of soft animal polster in the void that would allow me to fill the space between sole and pad with Glue-U's shufill without undoing my floating with polyurethane. Everything was supported with a thin aluminum plate. #sigronpodiatry

Why Glushu Works Well in These Cases

Glushu offers several advantages for treating hoof cracks and other hoof problems:

  • Strong adhesion that bonds securely to the hoof and shoe.

  • Flexibility that allows the hoof to move naturally without breaking the bond.

  • Durability that withstands the stresses of movement and prevents shoe loss.

  • Compatibility with other materials like pads and plates, enabling customized treatments.

These features make Glushu a valuable tool for farriers dealing with complex hoof issues.

Practical Tips for Using Glushu

If you are considering Glushu for your horse, here are some practical points to keep in mind:

  • Prepare the hoof carefully by cleaning and trimming to ensure good adhesion.

  • Use appropriate fillers like Shufill to fill gaps and support the hoof structure.

  • Combine Glushu with supportive materials such as aluminum plates when needed.

  • Monitor the horse regularly to check the condition of the glue and shoe.

Following these steps can help maximize the benefits of Glushu glue in hoof care.
